Welcome to The Tightrope! (Updated July 21, 2008)

QUESTION: If sinners hang out in bars, where do Christians hang out?

Ever since God delivered me from the sin that I had been "enjoying", in favor of something so much better - true joy - I've wondered about that. I mean, there's nothing wrong with hanging out and having fun. And if you're single, you would want a place to hang out and meet people. And if you're a Christian, you'd want a place where you could hang out and meet other Christians. Right? I'll be honest. I miss hanging out and having fun, singing and playing games and telling jokes and meeting new people. And karaoke! Man, that was a good time. I left behind the alcohol, the cigarettes, the unsavory language and the illicit relationships. I even left behind some friends who couldn't understand my relationship with God. So here I am, a Christian who likes to have fun and make friends, in a situation where I get together with other Christians once or twice a week for about an hour. We sit and listen -to some GREAT sermons, by the way-  and then we shake hands and leave. Where is the fellowship? Where is the friendship? Where is the fun? Being a Christian doesn't mean you have to be somber and serious and forget all about throwing darts and shooting pool and playing video games.

What's a Christian to do? How can a Christian live in an unChristian world, have fun, and still honor God?

What about people who don't know Jesus, but would like to get to know what Christians are really like, in a fun and relaxing atmosphere?

Our churches need to realize this need and meet it -- before some of our brothers and sisters decide to go back to the arms of the darkness.

If your church has such a ministry, a coffee house, a social club, anything... send me a message. I'll post it on this site.  Let's get the word out that Christians know how to have fun too.

In my community, we have a place called "Sacred Grounds" - a coffee shop / music venue for Christian bands of all genres and from all parts of the country. Sit back, have latte and tap your foot...make some friends...maybe even dance a bit. Yeah. That's the ticket.

Keeping Your Balance

Righteousness .::'::. Freedom

God gave us an awesome power, the power to choose. We have the power to exercise our will and determine our own path. WOW! Do you get it? GOD. The one and only, all-powerful, all-knowing GOD. He let us choose to love Him. I'll say it again, "WOW!"

So how do we maintain the righteousness that God demands, while living in the freedom that He has so graciously given us? It's in what you choose.

1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

We are to walk in the light as He is in the light, have fellowship with each other, and keep looking to Jesus to make us pure. Notice he doesn't say to "sit" or to "stand", but to walk. It's an action thing. He makes a point of telling us to walk in the light and to have fellowship with each other.

Choose the light -- you know the difference between light and darkness!

Taking A Step

 Walking In The Light

Step: Are you going to church regularly? That's the first point of fellowship with other believers. Don't make excuses or put it off any longer. GO!

Step: Are you doing more than just sitting in church listening to a sermon for an hour or two each week? Being spiritually fed takes more than just sitting around, sipping on some sweet milk. You've got to make time to get together with other believers during the week. How about setting up a weekly coffee meeting? Grab a coffee and a donut and sit together and talk. Bear one anothers' burdens, lift each other up in prayer.

Step: You are saved to serve, not to sit. Find or even start a ministry in your church and community that shows God's love to the world. Are you into woodworking? Scrapbooking? Singing? Can you bake cookies? Get together with others and teach what you know, share your talents. God will open doors for you to share the gospel like never before if you just take that step. He'll keep you in balance!
